What exactly is Sensoria?
At the House of Fragrances and Flavours, everything revolves around the senses of smell and taste. Our interactive exhibition explores how we perceive scents and flavours, the role they play in everyday products, and the fascinating stories behind them. Just follow your nose!

How long are annual passes valid?
Annual passes are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and include access to special exhibitions, talks, and the rooftop garden.

Where can I store luggage and jackets?
Lockers are provided in the foyer. You can safely store coats and bags for just €1 (refundable deposit).
Please note: Large bags and rucksacks are not allowed inside the exhibition for security reasons.

Are pets allowed inside the exhibition or rooftop garden?
Pets are not permitted, with the exception of assistance dogs.

Am I allowed to take photographs in the exhibition?
Photography is allowed for personal, non-commercial use only – just please don’t use a tripod.

Is there food or drink available at Sensoria?
No, we don’t sell food or drinks, and eating or drinking inside the exhibition isn’t permitted. But the old town is just a short walk away and offers plenty of cafés and restaurants. Feel free to ask us for recommendations.

What should I bear in mind when visiting with a group?
For groups of 15 or more, we kindly ask that you book in advance. If you’re interested in a guided tour, just get in touch.

Is Sensoria a fragrance museum?
Not exactly. Sensoria is more than a fragrance, ‘sniffing’, or perfume museum. It’s a unique experiential museum dedicated to the sense of smell and taste, to fragrances and aromas. Immerse yourself—and see for yourself!

Is Sensoria affiliated with Symrise?
No—Sensoria is a project run by the Town of Holzminden. Symrise supports us as a financial partner.
Due to Holzminden’s long-standing history in the fragrance and flavour industry—through companies such as Haarmann & Reimer and Dragoco, which later became Symrise—a section of the exhibition explores this fascinating corporate heritage.

How are the perfumes made?
You can create your very own personal perfume at Sensoria—with the help of our digital perfumer. How does that work exactly? Partly trade secret, partly magic.

Can I re-order a scent that I’ve created myself?
Yes—your personal scent can be re-ordered up to 100 days after your visit. All you need is the alphanumeric code you were given when you made your fragrance. We keep your code on file for 100 days, after which it is automatically deleted.

Who designed the building?
The Sensoria building was designed by the renowned Berlin-based architectural firm Anderhalten.

What are your opening hours?
Sensoria’s opening hours vary by season:

Tuesday to Friday: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (last entry at 3:00 pm)

Where is the Holzminden Tourist Information located?
You’ll find the Holzminden Tourist Information right inside the Sensoria building at Obere Straße 45, 37603 Holzminden. They’re happy to help with information about Sensoria, regional attractions, events, and travel tips.

Are there concessions available for senior citizens?
We currently do not offer any discounts for senior citizens. Concession rates apply to visitors with a valid student ID, disability ID, or volunteer service card. Thank you for your understanding.

Is the exhibition accessible for wheelchairs or walkers?
Yes—the entire building is fully wheelchair and walker accessible. The exhibition is spread over two levels with only a gentle incline. The Fragrance Laboratory and rooftop terrace can be accessed easily via lift from the foyer or first floor.

Can I sell the perfume I made?
No—personal fragrances created at Sensoria are exclusive products and may not be resold.

Are there group discounts?
Yes – groups of 15 people or more can purchase a group ticket for just €9 per person.

Do you offer guided tours?
We don’t offer public guided tours at present. However, on request, we can arrange private guided tours for up to 15 people at the cost of €75 per group. Further details are available under “Group visits & Tours” on our website. If you’re interested, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Can I pre-order tickets online?
No—tickets cannot be pre-booked online. You can purchase them directly at the museum ticket office.

Can I give a visit to Sensoria as a gift?
Absolutely! We offer gift vouchers – you can choose any amount and even include the cost of a perfume sample. We’re happy to mail the voucher to you.

From what age can minors visit the exhibition without an accompanying adult?
From the age of 14, minors may visit the exhibition on their own.
