The Sound of Fragrance

South Korean concert pianist Hyelee Clara Chang presents her innovative concert concept ‘The Sound of Fragrance’, which combines classical music and fragrance, taking the audience on a journey of the senses.

The venue is as unique as the concert itself: the concert will take place in the front window of Sensoria - House of Fragrances and Flavours. Inside, in the centre of the exhibition, listeners can enjoy a combination of sound and scent, while only the music will be broadcast outside. In the pedestrian zone in front of the Sensoria building, interested parties can listen to the music and watch the artist play for free and outside. Chairs and other seating options can be brought along.

During her concert at Sensoria - Haus der Düfte und Aromen Holzminden, concert pianist Hyelee Clara Chang will explain how she associates different scents, images and flavours with her musical interpretation and invites the audience to experience her repertoire not just by listening. For example, she shows how Chopin smells, where she sees a butterfly in Schubert or when Beethoven tastes of chocolate.

During the concert, fragrance examples will be served in the concert hall to make these associations smellable.

Hyelee Clara Chang has already given concerts in 2022 with funding from the German Music Council, exploring the theme of ‘sound and scent’ in greater depth.

She worked with perfumer Dirk Linder on this project. He has created various fragrances according to her interpretation of music. Chopin, Ravel, Debussy and Rachmaninoff are thus made audible and olfactory, and the wonderful scent of lavender and the Sensoria fragrance are set to music. In this way, the two abstract arts are brought together and brought to life for the audience.

This unique evening is sponsored by the Freundes- und Förderkreis Sensoria e.V.

Tickets for the inner room are available at Sensoria, Obere Straße 45 in Holzminden.
